JCC Healthy Living: Bubbie's Kitchen Goes to Cuba

  • Raleigh-Cary JCC 12804 Norwood Road Raleigh, NC, 27613 United States (map)

Bubbie's Kitchen is an experiential global culinary curriculum that celebrates inclusiveness through our Jewish cooking and eating traditions. In this class we will be exploring the food of Cuba and learning about its history and the history of Jews in Cuba. This class will consist of hands-on cooking instructions followed by a full meal including the foods the class prepared.

Intended for children ages 7-9 + one loving adult per 3 children.

About Bubbie's Kitchen - Bubbie’s Kitchen is an innovative cooking program for children and their families where the food, stories, and culture of the Jewish people come to life. Traditionally, older generations have transmitted a cultural narrative to younger ones, however today children are less likely to live with, or near, extended relatives. The program replicates a Jewish grandmother's kitchen where language, recipes, music, stories, and activities can be preserved and passed on to the next generation. As the Jews traveled around the changing world, their food has become unique to those continents and countries. Each Bubbie’s Kitchen program will visit a new country that is significant to the Jewish people and learn of their cuisines and traditions. Places like Morocco, Germany, the Dominican Republic, and India all come alive through their foods.

About the instructor - Rachael Weisman is a certified health coach, healthy cooking teacher, granola maker, and now an officially trained Bubbie! She is so excited to bring the wonderful Bubbie's Kitchen curriculum to the Raleigh-Cary community, where she hopes it will inspire kids and adults alike to cook and eat delicious, healthy food and to remember that there is a seat at the table for everyone.
