Jewish Italy: the Most Ancient Minority presented by Saskia Ziolkowski, Duke University.

Jews in Italy are often referred to as “the most ancient minority,” because of their continuous presence in Italy, from pre-Christian times to today. This talk outlines some of the distinctive features of “Jewish Italy,” including its history, food, art, literature, and cultural traditions, to investigate what “Jewish Italy” might mean. From The Merchant of Venice to The Garden of the Finzi-Continis, literature has played an especially prominent role in understandings of Jewish Italy.
