Statement on How to Help Afghan Refugees in NC

Volunteers Serving Food.jpg

The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary is moved by the humanitarian evacuations of Afghan allies and their families from Kabul.

Many people in the Jewish community are asking about what they can do to help Afghan evacuees who will be arriving in the Triangle.  The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants and their local field office in Raleigh (USCRI NC) recommend the following actions:

  • Become a Welcome Home Partner, which involves setting up apartments for new arrivals, by contacting WelcomeNC@uscrimail.org

  • Volunteer to teach English, tutor students, or serve as family mentor by contacting Volunteer@uscrinc.org

  • Provide temporary housing by calling 919-334-0072 x 4000 (USCRI NC office)

Additionally, you can help through HIAS, the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, which has a resettlement partner in Charlotte.

JCRC will continue to provide updates on relief efforts being organized locally and nationally through other partners. For more information on what you can do to help, please contact: jcrc@shalomraleigh.org.
